Nature Volunteers

The Town Council looks after many green areas around the town: an ancient woodland, meadows, hedgerows, wetlands as well as parks, paths, a cemetery and sports pitches. You may be interested in helping us manage these green areas, joining in with tasks and learning new skills.

Practical activities to managing and create habitats, and keep places beautiful

Managing meadows, raking hay, laying hedgerows, clearing litter, planting hedges, planting trees, coppicing, digging ponds, pruning, clearing scrub, installing fences, removing invasive plants.

Other opportunities

Nature spotting, wildlife surveying (for example bird, tree or wildflower surveys) researching the history of sites, or helping us with historic cemetery records

We hope to have an overall group of volunteers for the town, sometimes joining regular meetings at particular locations such as Barton Farm Country Park or The Strips woodland, and sometimes at occasional events elsewhere in the town.

If you sign up as a volunteer we’ll then let you know of opportunities and events you might wish to join.

You can also find upcoming sessions on Explore BOA.

*under 18s may join volunteer events where appropriate, but, they must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
