Annual Town Council Meeting

Summary:

Election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Leader of the Council.  Committee Structures agreed and Chairs elected.

The Annual Town Council Meeting is a statutory meeting that we have to hold by law every year.  It’s traditionally the ‘first’ of the year, meaning the first to be held after an election and annually after that.  At this meeting we elect a Chair and deputy Chair of Council (known in Bradford as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, though these are ceremonial ‘styles’ rather than statutory designations).  Since May 2017, like many other Councils, we also now elect a Leader of the Council, who leads on political policy and is the primary spokesperson for the Council.  This year, the majority group will be bringing forward proposals to further reform the committee structure to make things simpler and more effective, and Chairs to those new committees will also be elected.  To make all that work, the Council Standing Orders and Committee Terms of Reference Policies will also be amended.  As always, members of the public are invited to ask questions during the first 30 minutes of the meeting.  If time allows, there will also be questions from the floor at the end.
