Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon Monthly Meeting
Each year CFBOA holds one meeting which takes the form of discussion about some aspect of our strategy for the year.
This month it is about what we can do locally, to raise awareness about the importance of the UN climate talks which the UK government is hosting for the first time in 30 years, in Glasgow in November.
Each year a different country hosts, from a different region of the world. This year, (or rather, in 2020, but Coronavirus led to the postponement of the talks for a year), it is the turn of western Europe, and the UK offered to host. This is a very important role, and really requires the host country to show leadership on climate action, as this is the year when countries have to declare what actions they are taking over the coming few years to ensure that, globally, the action is sufficient to keep global temperature rise below 2 degrees.
Current commitments at present will lead to a temperature rise in excess of 3 degrees, which would be catastrophic.
We need to put pressure on our government to step up on climate action, to show leadership, and to make the complex processes at this event as open and transparent as possible.
We will share ideas in break out ‘rooms’ in our Zoom meeting – ideas for what we can do in the town, as a group and as individuals, and how we might work with the Town Council on this issue.
If you’d like to join a meeting, email climatechampions@gmail.com for the Zoom meeting code.
Previous meetings are reported within the monthly newsletter available on the CFBOA website: https://climatefriendlybradfordonavon.co.uk/ or look us up on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/goingzero2030 to find out what’s coming up.
