Following discussion at this week’s Environment & Green Spaces committee meeting (25 June), the town council is working with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) on a project to improve and resurface the public tennis courts in Culver Close.
What are the next steps?
- the LTA will be presenting the project to their budget panel soon. If the project is approved, work on the courts will start almost immediately
- the tennis courts will be closed for 8 weeks while they’re resurfaced and marked.
After the courts reopen, there will be changes to how you play.
Firstly, there will be a charge to play on the courts.
This is because the funding agreement between the town council and the LTA focuses on the long-term sustainability of the courts – and the charges will mean we can save money up to look after the courts.
We’ll also introduce an online booking system for the courts.
There will be membership options, as well as pay-as-you-play options – and we’ll work on the details of these with the LTA.
We’ll provide more details and updates on this project as it moves forward.
