Community Fridge launched in Bradford on Avon

Bradford on Avon Town Council has soft launched a Community Fridge to help tackle food waste and help local people.

The Co-Op will stock Community Fridge which will be opened by volunteers between 2pm and 5pm.

The Bradford on Avon Community Fridge can be found at the side of St Margaret’s Hall, nearest to the start of the Riverside Walk.

Cllr Alex Kay said: “I’m delighted that at long last our Community Fridge is stocked and open.

“This project began over four years ago to help reduce food waste, which is a significant Climate Emergency problem, as well as providing some support to alleviate food poverty.

“Now, with the help of our local Co-Op, near-use-by-date food is available free for anyone to take and eat, including fruit, vegetables, baked goods and snacks.

“Far better than going to the landfill. A huge thank you to our volunteers, Town Council staff and our wonderful Co-Op.”

A spokesperson for Bradford on Avon Town Council said: “We have soft-launched our Community Fridge to gauge its demand and to see what items users need most.

“Thank you to our local Co-Op who has been instrumental in ensuring a packed fridge, and to those volunteers who have opened, closed and cleaned the Community Fridge.

“This project could not have been a success without their work.”

A few rules have been introduced to ensure everyone possible can use the fridge:

  • The food is free, take only what you are going to eat and please be considerate of the needs of others
  • If you know of others who would benefit from the Community Fridge, please spread the word
  • We are not currently accepting donations from individual households

More news on the Bradford on Avon Community Fridge will be available soon.
