Green Wall

Our green wall is a vital and vibrant part of the town centre.

The green wall project started in 2019 with the idea of turning a grey wall into something lush, colourful and beautiful – with the added aim of reducing air pollution from the nearby roads.

Crowdfunding and community donations were supported by contributions from the Arts Festival Group, Wiltshire Council and Bradford on Avon Town Council.

And in July 2022, the wall was fixed into place and planted by ANS Global, living wall and green roof specialists.

SEASON BY SEASON

The green wall is made up of over 3,500 plants and features an in-built watering system.

Summer – Allium Schoenoprasm, Autumn Catchfly, Heart-leaf Bergenias

Autumn – Wood Anemones, Cyclamens, Lilyturf

Winter – Christmas Rose, Crocuses, Snowdrops

BENEFITS OF THE GREEN WALL

Studies have found that living walls can cool the surrounding area by as much as 5°C compared to a bare wall.

Our wall helps to reduce air pollution in Bradford on Avon town centre. It does this by trapping and absorbing the pollution from its surroundings.

The plants in the green wall take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and create oxygen (02), contributing to our carbon neutral commitment.

The wall supports wildlife with native planting and pollinators.

Research shows that seeing greenery and nature makes people feel better and reduces stress.
