And last night, the Mayor, Simon McNeill-Ritchie, Deputy Mayor, Alex Kay and the Town Council’s official Morale Officer, Frida the dog, went out, socially distanced, to inspect the displays.
The new Tier 2 government guidelines will allow many of our wonderful independent shops to re-open when lockdown lifts on 2nd December and there are so many selling individual and bespoke gifts; perfect for Christmas presents!
Mayor of Bradford on Avon, Simon McNeill-Ritchie said:
“The last year has been immensely challenging for our local independent retailers, who are in many ways the heart of our wonderful town, and we recognise that they are not alone in that – many are facing economic hardship. So this year more than ever, if you are able to spend a little this Christmas, keeping that money local will make a huge difference at a time of year when, normally, many make a a large proportion of their annual profits.
Every adult in the town spending just £10 locally would generate around £100,000 for the local economy, and for some businesses that support will make the difference between staying open, or permanently closing their doors.”
