Christmas is ON

You may have seen Santa’s Elves, aka Burbidge Electrical, being very busy around town over the last few days, working hard to get our beautiful LED lights up and running for the Christmas period.

And last night, the Mayor, Simon McNeill-Ritchie, Deputy Mayor, Alex Kay and the Town Council’s official Morale Officer, Frida the dog, went out, socially distanced, to inspect the displays.

Aside from the main Christmas Lights and additional Christmas trees that the Town Council has provided for free to businesses this year, shop keepers have also been hard at work readying their windows to entice customers back in, adding still further to the town’s festive feel!

The new Tier 2 government guidelines will allow many of our wonderful independent shops to re-open when lockdown lifts on 2nd December and there are so many selling individual and bespoke gifts; perfect for Christmas presents!

Many of our local shops are also now operating online, via click and collect; so whether you’re able to get into town to shop in person, or happier shopping online, there’s plenty on offer. You can find out who is operating, and how, on our Explore Bradford on Avon website’s shopping page: https://www.bradfordonavon.co.uk/local-shops-and-businesses/

Mayor of Bradford on Avon, Simon McNeill-Ritchie said:

“The last year has been immensely challenging for our local independent retailers, who are in many ways the heart of our wonderful town, and we recognise that they are not alone in that – many are facing economic hardship.
So this year more than ever, if you are able to spend a little this Christmas, keeping that money local will make a huge difference at a time of year when, normally, many make a a large proportion of their annual profits.
Every adult in the town spending just £10 locally would generate around £100,000 for the local economy, and for some businesses that support will make the difference between staying open, or permanently closing their doors.”

You can also find out about #ShopLocalShopBoA special offers via the Explore website and on Explore BoA’s Facebook and Twitter pages, the #ShopLocal Advent Calendar also starts this Tuesday at 8:30am – each day, one business will have a special Christmas offer available!

The town is looking really fantastic, and got the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Frida the dog’s seal of approval. We hope you will enjoy the lights when you visit the town and although things may be a little odd this year, we hope you’ll agree that …

Christmas is now most definitely ON in beautiful Bradford on Avon!
