The Environment Agency (EA) was founded in 1996 to protect and improve the environment.
The EA is also responsible for managing the risk of flooding from main rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and the sea.
In England, the EA is responsible for:
- regulating major industries and waste management
- treating contaminated land
- managing water quality and resources
- overseeing fisheries
- navigating inland rivers, estuaries and harbors
- protecting conservation areas and ecology.
