Bradford on Avon library has received a donation of Ukrainian-language books from the Kyiv Region Children’s Library, helping Ukrainian families settled in Wiltshire stay connected to their language and culture.
The books were delivered to the local library on Monday (20 July), where they will be catalogued before being made available for public use.
The donation was organised by Councillor Yuliia Semenova, a member of Boryspil District Council, whose family have lived in Bradford on Avon since 2022.
“The value of books can never be overstated,” Yuliia said. “We have also sent books about Ukraine in English because we would love our British friends to see what a picturesque country Ukraine is and to learn more about its wonderful traditions and culture.”
Town Mayor, Councillor Sam Blackwell said: “We are very grateful to have more Ukrainian books in our local library.
“Since the outbreak of full-scale war in 2022, Ukrainians have found a home in Bradford on Avon and become valued members of our community.
“We are glad to support them and having these books available locally helps them stay connected to their language, culture, and heritage.”
