To commemorate Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service, Bradford on Avon Town Council has planted a memorial tree as part of our town wide tree planting.
On Tuesday 28 March 2023 we planted a Hornbeam on Barton Lawn in Barton Farm Country Park.
The ceremony was attended by Councillors, members of the Preservation Trust, volunteers as well as Councillor Katie Vigar, the Mayor of Bradford on Avon and the Deputy Lieutenant, Air Vice Marshal David Couzens.
Air Vice Marshal Couzens said: “It was a great pleasure to be in Bradford on Avon today for this tree planting.
“The choice of an historic tree – the Hornbeam – bodes well for the future of Bradford on Avon and its residents for years to come.”
Councillor Vigar said: “Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was held in very high regard by the people in the town.
“This tree will be a lasting memorial in her honour.”
We chose a Rockhampton Red variety of Hornbeam because it is a purple leaf tree which represents royalty.
The memorial tree was planted as part of wider tree planting plans. The works have been funded by a £96,000 grant from the Forestry Commission secured through Wiltshire Council.
