Residents belonging to the more ‘at risk’ categories during the COVID-19 pandemic are being urged NOT to make trips to pharmacies for their prescriptions after our local Pharmacy, Police and NHS have expressed concerns at the high number of people that are still ignoring government guidance.
As a Town Council we have identified and made contact with an extensive network of volunteers across the town, who are also backed up by our fantastic Community Emergency Volunteers, and are now coordinating help for anyone who needing prescriptions, as well as other assistance, in the following categories:

Those with underlying health conditions who have recently been advised to self isolate until further notice

ANYONE over the age of 70 (whether or not you have underlying health conditions)

Those with symptoms of COVID-19 as defined by the NHS or if anyone else in the household has symptoms
If you fall into one of the above categories, we ask you to get in touch with us, no matter how well you feel, and let us know what you need.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Dom Newton said:
“Although you may think that you are saving someone this bother, actually it is better for the whole community if you use the delivery service for the time being.
The longer people ignore this advice, the more the virus will spread – and the longer restrictions on our normal lives will continue. This means that more businesses will close, children will be out of school for longer, and, sadly, more people will die.”
Please be aware that everyone is currently being asked to stay at home and to avoid unnecessary journeys.
This is for a number of reasons:
- To avoid contracting the virus themselves;
- To avoid passing it on to others, which is possible even if they do not have symptoms;
- To reduce pressure on front-line NHS services due to more infections
