Lorry Watch is looking for more volunteers

The Lorry Watch team is looking for new volunteers.

Lorry Watch formed after many residents complained about lorries ignoring the 18-tonne weight limit on the Town Bridge.

The weight limit on the bridge is there to protect its heritage, and Lorry Watch says damage from heavy vehicles is visible on the iconic bridge.

Lorry Watch coordinator Mike Roberts said: “We are working with a small team of five volunteers, supported by Wiltshire Police, which has reduced over the last year from a team of 10.

“Despite the dwindling team we seem to record an average of 15 vehicles per month.

“We continue to receive information from the public that vehicles are passing through when we have no representation.

“To that end, we would encourage further volunteers to come forward to help plug those gaps.”

If you, or someone you know, are interested in joining the Lorry Watch team, please contact Mike Roberts on 07824534162 or email him at mroberts88@sky.com to discuss what is needed and your availability.

The following figures recorded by Lorry Watch show the number of 18-tonne+ vehicles rumbling through the town:
