At last night’s Sustainable Travel meeting (24 February), councillors received a verbal update on the proposed pedestrian and cycle bridge and a number of local traffic management projects.
These updates followed a recent meeting with Wiltshire Council, who have agreed to provide progress reports ahead of future Sustainable Travel meetings.
Here’s a quick summary of where things stand:
Foot and cycle bridge – Wiltshire Council has secured funding to produce an outline business case. This has now been ordered, and the report is expected this autumn.
Silver Street contraflow scheme, the ‘bus gate’ – the feasibility study is in progress and the report findings due back this spring.
Market Street changes – proposals to improve the footway will be considered by the Local Highways and Footway Improvement Group. Detailed design and costings will follow if approved by the group.
Bus infrastructure improvements – Wiltshire Council has secured funding to repair and upgrade bus stops across the county and is currently inviting public feedback.
Bus infrastructure projects – Wiltshire Council
Walking and cycling plan – a consultation is underway to help identify priority routes, with the final plan due in the summer.

We’ll continue to share updates as these projects move forward.
