Work on Bradford on Avon’s new skatepark is set to start on Tuesday 9 May – with an expected finish in August.
The new skatepark is being built by Maverick, concrete skatepark specialists based in Poole.
The design for the new Poulton Park skatepark was agreed last month, at a meeting of Full Council on Tuesday 7 March 2023 following consultation with user groups.
And now – after working closely with Maverick to plan the build – work will start in May.
The build will see temporary vehicle access from Baileys Barn and a protective trackway running from the bottom of the field up to the old skatepark.
This will be used for deliveries and other vehicles coming and going as part of the build.
There will be a fenced area around the old skatepark while the new skatepark is built; but most of the park will remain open – including the meadow and the children’s play area.
“This is such an exciting project for the town – and for Poulton Park,” said Councillor Katie Vigar, Bradford on Avon’s Mayor.
“So many people were involved in designing the skatepark – and so many people were involved in the fundraising for this to happen. And now it’s happening,” she added.
The build is scheduled to take 14 weeks – but could be slowed by the weather and ground conditions.
If everything goes well though, the new skatepark could be open by mid-August.
Maverick’s team will be working between 8am and 4pm on weekdays. Work isn’t scheduled for the weekends or the Bank Holidays in May.
“Maverick’s team has lots of experience of working with councils and building skateparks in public parks,” said Councillor Vigar, “and we’ve been working with them to minimise the disruption while the new skatepark is built.”
“This means most of the park will be open as usual. But we will have to temporarily remove the wooden BMX track while the skatepark is built.”
