The stripping out works in St Margaret’s Hall have been finished – and we’re now inviting tenders for the reinstatement works.
There’s information about this on our website for companies interested in submitting a tender – and we’re planning to review the tenders at the start of September.
How to register interest
If you’re interested in tendering for the works, please see our Work With Us page for more details.
Plans to protect against future flooding
St Margaret’s Hall already has some flood resistance measures in place – including the metal barriers that are put in place around the building when we receive flood alerts and warnings from the Environment Agency.
However, the reality of what happened in November – and what could happen again – is that it can be very difficult to protect buildings from flooding. And in the case of buildings right next to the river, it can be almost impossible to prevent water from getting inside.
As such, we’re focusing on flood resilience and recoverability – actively considering ideas like:
- replacing previously carpeted floors with finishes like vinyl or linoleum
- having easy to clean wall coverings in the toilets and kitchen
- raising electrical sockets further up the walls
- using different types of plaster board in the building
- damp proof membranes
- stainless steel units and surfaces in the kitchen.
We’re also considering the possibility of a pump in the main hall.
These ideas are all being discussed with our insurance company and the loss adjuster overseeing our insurance claim.
