A splash of colour for the town

At 6am this morning, Tony and Jess from Superior Plants came to Bradford on Avon, as they have each June for the past few years, ready to adorn the town with almost 50 hanging baskets, mangers and planted beds.

The plants used have been grown over the last 3 months, and when they arrive, though undeniably beautiful, are comparatively modest in appearance, flourishing over the coming months into huge cascading displays and filling the town with colour.

Tony, who’s father set up their business in 1974, said that like many other growers and nurseries, they have been hit badly by the loss of business resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to many retail and hospitality customers cancelling orders when forced to close. They have needed to adapt their business to accommodate these losses and have relied on online sales to help them through the crisis.

“Bradford on Avon is one of our favourite towns to supply – everyone is always very friendly and appreciative of our displays, and it’s a pleasure to help to make this beautiful historic town even more stunning each year!” said Jess

The Superior Plant team will attend the town most days (weather dependent) to water the baskets and troughs right through until October when they are taken down. Along with the natural and cultivated areas throughout our community, these displays will not only delight residents and visitors, but also provide added food for pollinators. And already the bees have taken an interest!
